Senator Steven Bieda Introduces Legislation for Electronic Voter Registration
Bieda backs legislation to maximize voter turnout and lift unnecessary roadblocks to voters change of address through online voter registration
LANSING—State Senator Steven Bieda (D-Warren) introduced legislation that would require the Michigan Secretary of State to develop a website which would allow electronic voter registration. Voters would also be able to update their registration records online.
“The intent of this legislation is to make it easier for Michigan residents to register to vote,” said Steven Bieda, who serves as minority Vice Chair of Judiciary and Finance Committees. “Why should a person who moves be required to submit a written change of address Numerous states run a secure online registration program without problems. I am seeking to maximize voter turnout by making voter registration as convenient as possible.”
Senator Bieda represents the 9th Senate district and brings years of legislative experience from the State House. Bieda’s priorities as a member of the House were always a commitment to fiscally responsible spending, and keeping the state services many Macomb county families need.
“I think we need to do whatever it takes to encourage voters to get to the polls and ensure their voice in government is heard,” said Bieda. “This is a no-brainer, and something that would ease the burden of registering to vote. I’m prepared to make this legislation a reality and ready to roll up my sleeves to get to work for the residents of Michigan. ”
