Lansing – The Michigan Senate Democrats today slammed the budgets being passed by their Republican colleagues over the past week for continuing their ongoing trend of favoring corporations at the expense of investing in Michigan's schools, communities and working families.
Senator Steve Bieda (D-Warren) hailed passage of his legislation by the State Senate today that would require a bittering agent be added to antifreeze. The measure is aimed at preventing children and animals from ingesting lethal doses of the liquid which often has a sweet taste that is appealing to pets and children.

State Senator Steve Bieda praised a judge's ruling yesterday that granted a father communication rights so he can begin rebuilding his relationship with his biological daughter, a situation that was made possible due to legislation that Senator Bieda sponsored. The new law allows a possible biological father to file a petition to determine paternity under certain circumstances. Prior to these laws being enacted, state law did not give a possible biological father legal standing to file a paternity action to show he may be the biological father of a child born to a married woman.
